Can you imagine life without a personal computer? I can. Let me explain
52 years ago the human race landed on the moon. They used a computer that was more than a MILLION times slower than the device in your pocket.
Today the World is very different from 1969. It's very different from 2000, when I was 11 years old. Since then, the mobile broadband transfer speeds have evolved from EDGE with transfer speeds of up to 384kbps, to 5G, that is designed to deliver peak data rates up to 20Gbps. In Finland, almost the whole country is covered by 4G with average speeds of 23Mbps. Streaming 4K video requires approximately 25Mbps.
I am lucky and privileged to live in Finland, where I can go to a national park "in the middle of nowhere" and stream a movie with 4K quality in my tent.I can also stream that video from a computer running in a datacenter "somewhere". Still following along?
With Windows365 you can have a personal computer running 24/7 in Microsoft Azure. All you need have to connect to your "virtual personal computer", is another device with an internet connection. And it just so happens that you have that device in your pocket. Dock that device to a screen with a keyboard and a mouse and you have full desktop computer experience.
What about gaming? That can't be good for playing games? I have used one of the many cloud gaming platforms, GeForceNow for years. It's not perfect, but the performance is plenty enough for a casual gamer. And the new high performance subscription brings 1440p @120FPS. That is way better than the avarage gaming PC performance.
With the adoption of 5G, and in the future 6G (100Gbps), having powerful computing locally, might no longer make any sense in most cases. Instead you would carry along a lightweight, high definition display / input / output device. Perhaps something like this.
